Asahi, the maker of Peroni beer will launch its’ new gluten free beer, Peroni Nastro Azzurro Gluten Free
in the UK this April.
In a similar production method to Stone Delicious IPA (Indian pale ale), a US beer, Peroni uses enzymes to break down and remove the gluten at harmful levels. In the United States, products that aren’t produced from naturally gluten free ingredients such as rice, cannot legally be called gluten free. (Stone Delicious is labelled “gluten-reduced” in the US).
In the UK, if the gluten is below 20 parts per million (ppm), then it can be called gluten free.
Endorsed by the Italian Coeliac Association, the new gluten free Peroni is claimed to have the same taste as the original, good news for the newly diagnosed.
